Amsterdam attracts millions of visitors every year, and for good reason. From narrow streets and historic canals to green parks, markets, shops, and museums: there is always something to discover.
Are you spending a day in Amsterdam, do you live nearby, or are you showing someone around the city? Combine your visit to one of our two coffeeshops with these famous and surprising sights.
Our location in Amsterdam Centre is situated in the Haarlemmerbuurt. It is a great spot if you want to explore the city on foot, as from here you can easily walk to all the hotspots in and around the centre.
The Jordaan
The Jordaan is the Amsterdam of postcards: narrow streets, beautiful canals, small shops, galleries, and cozy cafes. On Mondays and Saturdays, you will find stalls with local products, vintage finds, and more at the Noordermarkt. As far as we are concerned, the Jordaan is the perfect neighborhood for a nice, aimless stroll!
The Anne Frank House
The Anne Frank House is located on the Prinsengracht, about a ten-minute walk away. The Secret Annex, where Anne Frank wrote her diary, is one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands. Please note: tickets are only available online and are often sold out weeks in advance, so plan this visit well ahead.
The Haarlemmerstraat and Haarlemmerdijk
Our own street borders the Haarlemmerstraat, once voted the nicest shopping street in the Netherlands. No large chains, but specialty shops, coffee shops, vintage stores, and delicatessens. The street merges into the Haarlemmerdijk, where you will find the same type of shops. From here, you can walk straight into the Westerpark.
The Westerpark and the Westergas
Do you fancy some more greenery? Then the Westerpark is a nice place to go. In the middle of the Westerpark stands the Westergas: an old gas factory that has been converted into a cultural venue. Here you will find hospitality venues, culture, creative events, and plenty of places to unwind. Ideal for an afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
The Canal Belt
The Amsterdam Canal Belt is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and starts just a few minutes' walk from our coffeeshop. The Brouwersgracht, right around the corner, is called the most beautiful canal in the city by many Amsterdammers. For a canal cruise, you can board at Central Station, for example, but a walk along the water is just as beautiful.
Our location in Amsterdam South can be found right in the middle of the Rivierenbuurt. Less touristy, but with surprisingly much beauty within easy reach. You are close to the Amstel, various parks, De Pijp, and a number of famous museums.
The Albert Cuyp Market and De Pijp
De Pijp is a fifteen-minute walk (or a few minutes' bike ride) away, with the Albert Cuyp Market as its beating heart. This market has existed since 1905 and, with over 250 stalls, is the largest daily market in the Netherlands. Sample a fresh stroopwafel there and then wander through the side streets full of restaurants and bars. Sarphatipark, right in the middle of De Pijp, is a nice place to settle down for a while.
The Heineken Experience
On the edge of De Pijp stands the old Heineken brewery from 1867, nowadays an interactive museum about the beer brand. You learn how the beer is brewed there and finish with a tasting. A popular outing, so here too: book online.
The Amstel and the Amstelpark
Our coffeeshop is located a few minutes from the Amstel. Walk or cycle along the water towards the south and you will reach the Amstelpark, with a rose garden, maze, and the picturesque windmill De Riekermolen.
The Olympic Stadium
Attention sports enthusiasts! Plan a visit to the Olympic Stadium, built for the Amsterdam Olympic Games in 1928. The stadium is a national monument and still hosts sporting events and concerts. From Vechtstraat, it takes about ten minutes to get there by bike.
After a day full of museums, markets, and crowded shopping streets, there is nothing better than relaxing for a while. Coffeeshop Relax is the perfect place for this. What characterizes us? A cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and high-quality products.
Moreover, our locations in Amsterdam Center and South are just a few minutes away from the sights featured in this blog. Visiting one of these places? Then stop by Coffeeshop Relax for a cup of coffee and a relaxing moment.
