Embarking on your first journey to Amsterdam, the heart of Europe's cannabis culture? Navigating the city's vibrant coffeeshop scene can be a thrilling yet daunting experience. But don't worry, we've got you covered.

We've curated a list of the 12 best coffeeshops in Amsterdam for 2023 to ensure your trip is a memorable one. This guide is designed to cater to everyone, from curious first-time smokers to seasoned cannabis enthusiasts.

Safety is paramount when exploring Amsterdam's coffeeshops. Remember, it's essential to respect the local laws and customs. Always carry identification, don't smoke in public places, and never drive under the influence.

It's also a good idea to start slow, especially if you're new to cannabis. The potency of Dutch cannabis can be significantly higher than what you might be used to. Though, even if you’ve consumed any weed or hash related products before, don’t fret: most of the coffeeshops in Amsterdam on this list offer a wide variety of strains and they’re more than willing to help you out on deciding what to try out first if you’re inexperienced. Just ask the professional in-store personnel!

Our list isn't ordered based on ranking. After all, what makes a coffeeshop great can be pretty subjective. We've considered a variety of factors that contribute to the overall coffeeshop experience. These include the ambiance, the staff, the location, and of course, the quality and variety of products on offer.

So, whether you're looking for a cozy spot to relax and enjoy a smoke, a bustling place to meet fellow travelers, or a shop with a wide variety of strains to explore, our guide has something for everyone.

Let's dive in and discover what Amsterdam's coffeeshops have to offer. First off, we’ll introduce you to our own Coffeeshop (full disclosure here): Coffeeshop Relax!

1. Coffeeshop Relax: Award-winning Quality with a Home-like Atmosphere

Though it's our own establishment (and yes, we might be a tad bit biased in this respect) we believe our longstanding commitment to excellence and unique atmosphere sets us apart, even in a city renowned for its cannabis culture. Nestled in the enchanting neighborhood of Jordaan, a leisurely five-minute stroll from the Central Station, you'll find a small but noteworthy destination - Coffeeshop Relax

We’re proud to say that our consistent commitment to quality hasn’t gone unnoticed. We've been recognized as a prize-winning coffeeshop for multiple years in a row now, a testament to our devotion to delivering the best for our customers.

Over the past three decades at Coffeeshop Relax, we’ve perfected the art of creating a superior cannabis experience. Our range of offerings is as broad as it is impressive, with a selection of weed, hash, pre-rolled joints, and the crowd-favorite, freshly baked space cakes.

Our cozy shop prides itself on a home-like, casual ambiance, making it a preferred stop for locals and tourists alike. At Coffeeshop Relax is serious about hash and weed quality. Every item - from our hand-rolled joints to our extensive range of weed species - is meticulously tested for pesticides, fungi, and other contaminants in a laboratory. We measure the THC and CBD levels to ensure you're aware of exactly what you're consuming, a standard we've upheld long before many others in Amsterdam.

Each product in our shop carries a QR code, which, when scanned, reveals a comprehensive breakdown of its ingredients and test results. We entrust this task to Cannabytics, an independent, highly-experienced cannabis analyst, ensuring you enjoy the cleanest and safest cannabis experience possible.

While we aim to be an unbiased guide to Amsterdam’s cannabis culture, we invite you to visit and experience Coffeeshop Relax's unique atmosphere for yourself. Located at Binnen Oranjestraat 9 (or Vechtstraat 9HS if you’re staying over in the more Southern district of Amsterdam), we’re always ready to welcome you with a friendly smile, quality products, and a relaxing environment. Whether you're in Amsterdam for a day or a while, do stop by to see why Coffeeshop Relax is among the city's top cannabis destinations.

7. De Tweede Kamer: A Cozy Nook with a Nostalgic Charm

Don’t be fooled by this coffeeshops namesake, ‘De Tweede Kamer’ is also the name of the Dutch parliament, but we promise the discussions inside this weed palace won’t be as serious. This shop has been around since 1985. This place is small but mighty, seating only 20 people, which creates a friendly atmosphere where you can easily chat with fellow visitors. The interior is charming, designed in a 20's apothecary style that adds a touch of nostalgia to your visit.

De Tweede Kamer is known for its top-notch products and knowledgeable staff. They offer a wide variety of strains, including some directly sourced from Morocco. Unfortunately Rizla recently passed away at the old age of 18 after having lived a live full of love and pets. We’ll always remember the living room atmosphere this cute kitty brought to the coffeeshop…
