This hybrid was developed by Seed Junky Genetics, a breeder with roots in Southern California. The strain originated from a cross between Bubba Kush and Animal Mints. In doing so, it combines an older Kush line with genetics from the Cookies family. That Californian background explains the association with 'Cali', but does not indicate where a specific harvest was grown.
A striking feature of Kush Mints is the abundant amount of resin on the flowers. The small resin glands often give the buds a whitish sheen. Purple hues may also be visible, although this varies by plant and harvest. Color and resin formation alone do not indicate the potency of the final product.
Kush Mints is also used as a basis for new crosses. For instance, breeder 808 Genetics lists the strain as the parent of Lemon Kush Mints and Kush Mints BX, among others. Consequently, the original strain name reappears in the names of various offspring. These crosses have their own genetic composition and are not the same as Kush Mints.
